I was sent to the Mayo Clinic in MN for surgery. I was in the waiting room of one of the many appointments you have there before surgery. A young woman was speaking to another woman about a group she found good advice in about her condition. I found our community by chance.
I was a mess after 25+ surgeries back to back.( Surgery 53 coming next month) I needed help and between ostomy/ IBD support groups and a therapist I was able to find the new me. I needed to pass on my knowledge and give support to others. I started volunteering at the hospitals near me to counsil those about to begin their ostomy journey. I help run an in person support group for people with ostomies at our local community center. I give advice and help others in online support groups. When this opportunity come up I was so excited to join a team of women that want to help others accept who we are and work to better our community.
