Hi!  I’m Amanda.  I live in suburban Chicago with my amazing husband, John (of almost 20 years) and my daughter, Sage (who is graduating from highschool in May!).  I work full time and attend school full time.  I am working on my BS in Environmental Science, focusing on agriculture and biogas.  We have 2 amazing Siberian kittens who are siblings; Moose (a girl) and Raven (a boy), who are almost a year old!

How did you learn about Girls With Guts?

I was going on day 20 in the hospital for a very severe flare-up of my Crohn’s disease and feeling really sorry for myself, so I googled Crohn’s support and the Girls with Guts Facebook page popped up.  I joined, was accepted, and made friends almost immediately.  It was empowering, inspiring, and encouraging and just what I needed.

Why did you decide to volunteer with Girls With Guts?

I have always wanted to give back to a group of women who gave me so much.  My disease is still not well controlled, so I needed something that I could easily do even if I was having a bad day…that’s when Carole emailed about the LYGM Core group.  It was a perfect fit!

When you are not volunteering with Girls With Guts what do you do with your time?

I love spending time with my family and friends.  I like to take advantage of our amazing forest preserves and the many activities that our village has going on.  I also enjoy listening to books and podcasts, playing board games, crocheting, and painting.
