GWG Chapternoon: The First Witch of Boston by Andrea Catalano

March 15 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join us Sunday, March 15th at 6PM EST/3PM PST for our first ever Chapternoon book club meeting! This session will be a moderated group discussion space designed to deepen connection and reflection alongside our current book selection. Our facilitator (and favorite OG GWG), Amy, will help guide conversation.

Chapternoon is intended to be a low-pressure, come-as-you-are conversation, offering room to process themes from the book through the lens of living with chronic illness. You’re welcome to listen, share, or pop in however feels best for you!

This month, we will be reading The First Witch of Boston by Andrea Catalano – GoodReads Choice Award for Historical Fiction

“The First Witch of Boston by Andrea Catalano is a historical novel based on the true story of Margaret Jones, the first person executed for witchcraft in Massachusetts in 1648. The book tells the story of Margaret, a healer, and her husband Thomas, focusing on their love story amidst the religious hysteria and political turmoil of the Puritan community, using her discovered journals and historical records like Governor John Winthrop’s diary as inspiration. It’s a story of an unjustly accused woman, exploring themes of love, fear, and superstition in the New World.”

Content Note: This book touches on difficult historical experiences and includes references to sexual harm, violence, and religious persecution within a colonial Puritan context.

You do not need to finish the book to attend. This space is about connection, not completion.

For this session, we encourage you to bring:

  • Your copy of the book (physical, digital, or audio — optional!)
  • A notebook or notes app if you like to jot things down
  • A cozy beverage and pjs!

You can join in on the Crafternoon via the Zoom link here.
