GWG Chapternoon: Famesick by Lena Dunham

September 27 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Virtual Event

Join us Sunday, September 27th at 6PM EST/3PM PST for our Chapternoon book club meeting! This session will be a moderated group discussion space designed to deepen connection and reflection alongside our current book selection. Our facilitator (and favorite OG GWG), Amy, will help guide conversation.

Chapternoon is intended to be a low-pressure, come-as-you-are conversation, offering room to process themes from the book through the lens of living with chronic illness. You’re welcome to listen, share, or pop in however feels best for you!

As we get closer to the retreat and begin exploring our theme, “The Masks We Wear,” Famesick by Lena Dunham offers a powerful reflection on the personas we create to navigate life. Through her experiences with fame, chronic illness, relationships, and personal struggles, Dunham reveals how the masks of confidence, success, and “having it all together” can protect us while also distancing us from our authentic selves.

Her story reminds us that healing begins when we find the courage to set those masks aside and allow ourselves to be seen – messy, vulnerable, and whole. As you read, we invite you to reflect on the masks you’ve worn, what they’ve protected you from, and what it might feel like to let them go in the supportive community we’ll create together at retreat.

You do not need to finish the book to attend. This space is about connection, not completion.

We encourage participants of the ChapterCrafter events to join at the start of the call, to maintain the flow of conversation!

For this session, we encourage you to bring:

  • Your copy of the book (physical, digital, or audio — optional!)
  • A notebook or notes app if you like to jot things down
  • A cozy beverage and pjs!
