Dr. Khanna is a gastroenterologist and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) specialist dedicated to advancing comprehensive, patient-centered care for women living with IBD. She completed her medical school training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and completed her internal medicine residency and IBD-focused gastroenterology fellowship at UCLA. After finishing her fellowship, she joined the academic faculty at Cedars Sinai as a basic scientist studying the pathophysiology of IBD. In 2014, she transitioned to Kaiser Permanente, where she spent nearly a decade as a clinical gastroenterologist with a regional focus in IBD, trying to advance the care of IBD patients within the Kaiser system. She returned to Cedars-Sinai in 2024, as the Clinical Director of Women’s Health in IBD where she is developing a comprehensive Women’s IBD program focused on unique issues that face women with IBD.
Joining the Medical Advisory Board and volunteering with Girls With Guts felt like a natural extension of the work I care most deeply about. As a gastroenterologist specializing in inflammatory bowel disease, and particularly women’s health in IBD, I see every day how much these diseases affect far more than just the digestive tract. They impact identity, confidence, fertility decisions, pregnancy, relationships, careers, mental health, and overall quality of life. One of the things that drew me most strongly to Girls With Guts is the organization’s focus on creating a genuine community and safe space for women living with IBD and ostomies. Medicine is critically important, but patients also need support, understanding, education, and connection from people who truly understand what they are going through. Organizations like this help fill a gap that healthcare systems alone often cannot.
